MEP Anderson visits RSBP Belfast Harbour Reserve
Sinn Féin MEP, Martina Anderson this week paid a special visit to the RSBP Belfast Harbour Reserve. Ms. Anderson who is a member of the European Parliament's Environment Committee said she was "very impressed with the education work at the Belfast Harbour Reserve which complements RSPB's core conservation work, enabling visitors expecially our young people to be inspired about birds and other wildlife, while learning about conservation issues and how to take positive action for the environment."
Commenting on the warm welcome given to her by RSPB NI Director, James Robinson at the environmental charity’s Belfast Harbour Reserve, Ms Anderson said:
"Sustainable development principles are the core of the facilities provided by RSPB at their Belfast Harbour Reserve. Amazing work is being done by RSPB staff and volunteers who are sharing their passion for birds and wildlife with nursery groups, schools, teacher training and agricultural colleges, youth and community groups and other bodies in support of key conservation themes.
"The RSPB Belfast Harbour Reserve is a wonderful example of how a major conservation project can thrive sitting beside local industry.
"I am looking forward to working very closely with RSPB and Bird Watch Ireland as part of my environment watch in the European Parliament following the Marine and the Birds and Habitats Directives as well as CAP."
