Fra McCann calls on statutory agencies to take immediate action to clear bonfire debris
Sinn Féin West Belfast MLA Fra McCann has again written to the DRD Minister and Housing Executive calling for the removal of the remnants of the 8th August bonfire which continue to litter the back path that runs parallel to Cullintree Road.
The West Belfast MLA said:
“After the Bonfire on the 8th of August this land has now been left strewn with materials both burnt and not burnt and it is a complete eyesore but also very dangerous for local residents. It is a disgrace that almost two weeks after this unwanted bonfire the place is still littered with debris and resembles a war zone.
“The organisations that have responsibility for this land need to step up and take immediate action to clear up this mess as well as explain why it has not been done yet.
“The vast majority of residents were opposed to the bonfire and the resulting destruction but it seems that this community is being punished by these organisations for the actions of a few. A number of residents have noted that they do not think this would be the case if the debris was strewn in other areas.
“It is time these statutory organisations realise this community deserves and is entitled to better treatment than they are receiving at the moment.’’
