Cullinane calls for dialogue in Dublin Airport taxi dispute

23 August, 2012 - by David Cullinane TD

The Sinn Féin spokesperson on Workers’ Rights, Senator David Cullinane, has called on all sides involved in the dispute to ensure that dialogue continues.

Speaking from Leinster House today, Senator Cullinane said “We are calling on the DAA, and the taxi drivers to continue dialogue, to ensure that this dispute is resolved and to ensure services can be resumed in a manner acceptable to all parties.

“Sinn Féin has long been of the view that the conditions of taxi drivers in this state are very difficult, and that the working hours of full time taxi drivers can be punishing, and often, financially unrewarding. In that context I believe that they would not have taken the decision to begin industrial action lightly.

“It is regrettable that this dispute has arisen during the height of the tourist season, however, that is all the more reason why the dispute should be resolved as soon as is possible.

“In my view, it is clear that agreement between workers and the company is within reach, and both sides should do their utmost to bring this dispute to a conclusion.”
