Clear footage shows that trouble began with loyalist attack on peaceful protest – Carál Ní Chuilín

26 August, 2012 - by Carál Ní Chuilín

North Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Carál Ní Chuilín said that video evidence taken by a Sinn Féin activist at yesterday’s morning Black Institution parade past St Patrick’s Church showed clearly that the trouble began when a loyalist supporter pulled the banner from protesting residents.

The North Belfast MLA said:
“This footage taken by a Sinn Féin activist clearly shows that a loyalist came from behind the peaceful protest and attempted to drag the banner away before disappearing into the nearby loyalist mob.

“Unionist politicians and loyalist representatives have already said that the trouble yesterday morning emanated from the protesting residents. This footage clearly shows that a loyalist was responsible who then disappeared among the bands and and their supporters. It also shows missles fired from the loyalists.

“Those who initially stated that the trouble originated from the residents protest now need to come out clearly and retract those statements and apologise to the residents.” CRÍOCH/END
