Adams - No excuse for delay in Finucane Inquiry

11 June, 2004

Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams MP speaking in Dublin this morning has said that there is no excuse for the British government not to immediately initiate a public inquiry into the killing of Pat Finucane. Mr Adams said:

"Judge Cory's revelations last night that he has seen documents prepared for the British cabinet linked to the murder of Pat Finucane provide compelling evidence of the need for a public inquiry.

"It is now beyond any doubt that the British government of the day colluded in the murder of citizens.

"We have raised this issue at every meeting we have had with the British government. No later than last week we raised the issue of collusion and particularly the killing of Pat Finucane with both the British and Irish governments. There can be no more excuses the British government should immediately initiate a public inquiry into the killing of Pat Finucane." ENDS
