Anderson 'EU report highlights importance of linguistic diversity'
Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has today voted on a report to ensure that the EU works to 'guarantee equal access to education without social, economic, cultural, racial or political discrimination'
Speaking from Strasbourg, Anderson said
"This report asks EU leaders to make education, youth training, lifelong learning, research, innovation and linguistic and cultural diversity a priority"
"With rising youth unemployment across the EU it is important that we give our young people the best chance possible, for this reason I am particularly pleased to see dual vocational training systems, which combine academic classes with practice and training included in this report.
"The emphasis on linguistic diversity is also a positive step forward. This is something we must continue to promote at home, by fuelling our ever-growing Irish language sector, and increasing our promotion of foreign languages.
Education is a right, not a privilege, and I am please to support a report, which demands this right.
