Cessation of London and Manchester routes at Waterford Regional Airport a major blow – Cullinane
Sinn Féin Senator David Cullinane has expressed his disappointment at the decision of Aer Lingus Regional to discontinue their London Luton, Southend and Manchester services from Waterford from early 2013.
He said this news represents a setback for the county and the region. He urged the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport to assist the airport management in finding replacements for these routes.
Speaking today Senator Cullinane said:
“This is very disappointing news and another blow for Waterford and the Southeast. I am confident that the Waterford Airport Management and Board are doing all they can to find replacement routes. If these routes are not replaced there will be a serious impact on the economic development of the county and in the area of tourism.
“It is vital that the Minister for Transport provides whatever assistance is necessary. It is also timely to remind the minister that Waterford Airport needs to be supported as it is important to the region’s economic development.
“I sincerely hope that the efforts to find replacement routes are successful.” ENDS
