Minister's statement a catalyst for unprecedented educational success - Hazzard
Sinn Féin Education spokesperson Chris Hazzard MLA has described Minister O'Dowd's statement to the Assembly today as a "game-changer" in the ongoing process of building a local education system fit for the 21st Century.
Minister O'Dowd today announced that in an effort to drive forward with raising educational standards across the education system, he will be establishing a teacher education strategy that not only cultivates exceptional leadership in our schools, but nurtures academic excellence and lays the foundations for future economic prosperity.
Mr. Hazzard said:
"Following on from the Chief Inspector's recent Report and in keeping with wider local and international evidence that effective and high quality teaching is central to delivering educational improvement; it is fantastic news that the Minister will be enhancing the professional standing of teachers across the North.
"It is vital that we attract the right people into teaching and that throughout their professional career they are provided with all the support they require in upholding the highest professional standards."
Minister O'Dowd also announced that attention will be given to developing exceptional leaders within the education system and that international best practice will be used as a barometer for future success.
Mr. Hazzard added:
"It is great to hear the Minister speak of learning from the best education systems in the world, and his decision to invite international independent experts to carry-out an in-depth review of our education system here in the North is an innovative step and I have no doubt will prove to be a game-changing moment in the development of our local education system
