Families deserve inquests and the truth – Gerry Kelly

19 November, 2012 - by Gerry Kelly

Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly said the party supports the families in their attempt to have Senior Coroner John Leckey’s decision to suspend the inquests into 14 controversial killings overturned.

The North Belfast MLA said:

“The decision to suspend the inquests has further delayed the families right to find out the truth around the death of their loved ones.

“The families have battled for years to get that truth and I have no doubt they will overcome this latest hurdle.

“It was clearly upsetting to the families that the inquests were suspended and also the manner in which they were made aware of the Coroner’s decision.

“The families are entitled to the truth and new inquests are the only means the families have of attempting to uncover it. The inquests should take place and that is the decision the families deserve.”
