Reilly should reinstate home help hours with Supplementary Estimate – Ó Caoláin

4 December, 2012 - by Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD

Following the publication of the€360 million Supplementary Estimate in Health Sinn Féin spokesperson Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD has called on Minister James Reilly immediately to reinstate the 950,000 home help hours cut in the past 12 months.
He said;
“Last week we highlighted the fact that this €360m would be sought by the Minister. Today we had confirmation.
“The Supplementary Estimate showed that the HSE regions combined require additional funding in the order of€162m, with HSE West alone requiring €45m. A further €234m is required for Medical Card Services and Community Schemes. €76m was redirected from other subheads within the Vote to bring the total Supplementary Estimate to €360m.
“I am calling on the Minister to ensure that a portion of this €360m is ring-fenced and used to reverse the cuts of some 950,000 home help hours which he has introduced in the past 12 months.”
