Ferris: Nothing in Budget to boost farming and rural economy
The Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Agriculture and Rural Affairs has claimed that the budget contains no proposals that will contribute to farming and the rural economy.
Deputy Ferris said: “There is no measure in the budget that will contribute to boosting the agricultural sector. As with the overall impact of the budget, it will exacerbate the negative multiplier effect of removing billons more from the economy.
“Rural communities, including farm families, will also of course bear the brunt of the overall cuts to payments such as Child Benefit, and to the increase in an array of direct and indirect taxes designed to take money from low to medium income earners in order to pay an unsustainable debt taken on in order to save failed banks.”
