Swift action needed on any criminal behaviour by Gardaí — Mac Lochlainn

13 December, 2012 - by Pádraig Mac Lochlainn

Commenting on the fact that the Garda Ombudsman has sent a file to the DPP on an investigation into why the State dropped charges against a major drug dealer, Sinn Féin’s Justice Spokesperson Pádraig Mac Lochlainn TD said:

“The idea that gardaí allowed a known drug dealer import and distribute drugs will be received with outrage by those communities who suffered the sharp end of the drugs scourge.

“Over many years community and anti-drugs activists in Dublin raised concerns about the garda attitude to drug dealers who were also informers.

“The public currently remains in the dark bout the findings of this investigation but the case raises major questions about the use of garda informers.

“These questions need speedy answers and there must be swift action on any criminal behaviour by gardaí.

“It is also important that any garda who obstructed this investigation be subject to the law.”
