McLaughlin welcomes confirmation of £1million marketing fund for City of Culture
Sinn Féin MLA Maeve McLaughlin has welcomed confirmation that the £1million NI Tourist Board (NITB) contribution to City of Culture marketing will not be affected by a reduction in EU Media Advertising receipts drawdown for 2012/13.
Maeve McLaughlin said:
“In response to a question that I posed to the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment (DETI) in December I have been assured that the £1million earmarked to promote Derry as the City of Culture will not be affected by any reduction in EU Media Advertising receipts drawdown for 2012/13.
“The Department has confirmed that there will be no adverse effect on the original forecast when the Budget was set in 2010, and therefore will have no impact on the proposed £1m NITB marketing contribution to the City of Culture in 2013. This EU funding is not lost to the NI Block and can be reallocated by DFP in the current financial year or in any year up to the end of the Competitiveness Programme in December 2015.
“NITB has been allocated £0.4m through the January monitoring exercise for marketing the City of Culture from January 2013 to March 2013 (last quarter of the 2012/13 financial year) along with £100k for visitor servicing for City of Culture. The remaining £0.6m marketing funding will be addressed in the 2013/14 financial year. This is welcome news and I will continue to monitor the marketing of the City of Culture to ensure that it receives the profile it deserves in all NITB advertising campaigns. CRÍOCH
