Tánaiste’s response to call for border poll predictable – Adams
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has described the Tánaiste Eamonn Gilmore’s response to his party’s call for a border poll as predictable and in keeping with the government’s instinct to attack Sinn Féin at every opportunity.
Speaking after listening to Gilmore’s interview on RTÉ Radio this lunchtime Deputy Adams said:
“The Tánaiste’s description of Sinn Féin’s call for a border poll as ‘unwise and ill-timed’ was both predictable and in keeping with the government’s instinct to attack Sinn Féin at every opportunity.
“Sinn Féin, as the Tánaiste knows, is working hard to end sectarianism and violence and to do so in an inclusive way with our unionist partners.
“We are wedded to the Good Friday Agreement. The Government needs to pursue its full implementation for equality and democracy.
“Sinn Féin is about doing this and we will also continue to encourage the government to join us in the endeavour.”
