Anger at inflation busting Enterprise price increase

2 July, 2004

Sinn Féin West Tyrone MLA Barry McElduff, Spokesperson on All Ireland Integration has criticised the inflation busting price increase on the Enterprise train service between Belfast and Dublin.

Mr McElduff said: "This latest increases comes on the back of an earlier price increase and means that the cost of a day return trip to Dublin has gone up by 19% since last July.

"As one of those people committed to bringing the people of this island closer together this can only be bad news. It is bad for the family that wants to visit the many attractions in Dublin and it is also bad for the development of All Ireland trade, particularly after the withdraw of the All Ireland freight service earlier this year.

"Translink recognise that they are failing to meet their targets in terms of delays yet bring in this increase that will only further discourage people from getting out their cars and taking the train." ENDS
