All Ireland co-operation sees restored Institute for Ireland opened in Europe
Sinn Féin Junior Minister Jennifer McCann MLA yesterday joined Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD to officially open the newly restored Leuven Institute for Ireland in Europe.
Located in the historic Irish College in Leuven, Belgium, the Institute is an
international centre for education, training and research in European and
International affairs.
The restoration of the Institute for
Ireland in Europe was jointly funded by the governments north and south. The
facility promotes all forms of cultural expression including the visual arts,
music, dance, theatre and literature.
The West Belfast MLA said:
“The Institute is a valuable centre for education, training
and research which clearly demonstrates what can be achieved through
collaboration. I would like to thank the Taoiseach Enda Kenny and the
government in the south for their valuable contribution to the Leuven
Institute.
“Through training, we can equip our public servants, business leaders, students
and wider civil society to develop strong and effective working relationships
with all the European Institutions, making our views heard and maximising the
benefits for our region.
“The refurbished Institute, with the superb
facilities, is therefore an investment in our greatest asset, our people.”
