Sinn Féin launch Falls initiative
West Belfast MP Paul Maskey speaking today as Sinn Féin launched a leaflet highlighting several initiatives being pursued in the Falls said the area is a very strong, proud, working class community.
The focus of the leaflet is on a multi-agency approach towards tackling social need in the area. The launch took place at the Maureen Sheehan Centre on Albert Street in Divis this morning and was attended by the Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness MLA, local MLA Fra McCann and councillor for the area Jim McVeigh.
Paul Maskey said:
“The Falls area of West Belfast is home to a very strong, proud, working class community. The area has suffered disproportionately in the conflict and through years of chronic underinvestment. As such there is a clear need to enhance peoples quality of life and improve the services in the wider area.
“The leaflet we are launching today will highlight some of the initiatives that will be delivered in the time ahead to address social need. This is only a start and will be a living document that will change when we secure additional schemes for the area.
“The leaflet will be delivered into every home in the area in the coming days.
“What we have here is a great opportunity for the community to move forward in a positive manner by developing the area through environmental improvements, educational initiatives, increasing employment opportunities, safer communities and in general helping to grow further that great pride that the Falls community is so well known for.” CRÍOCH/END
