Resources need directed to those in greatest need – Sinn Féin MLA
Sinn Féin MLA and Junior Minister Jennifer McCann has called for more effort to be made to address poverty and disadvantage rather than concentrating on parity.
The West Belfast MLA said:
“While we are limited by what we can do in the North in terms of the savage cuts imposed by the Westminister Government, both to the block grant and welfare, there are Executive Ministers that are fixated on the issue of parity rather than making devolution work, particularly for those who are most marginalised in our society.
“We need to identify the costs of doing things differently and to ensure that whatever limited resources we have are targeted at those in greatest need.
“Poverty has to be addressed if we are to create a just and fair society and the only way to tackle poverty and disadvantage is the effective targeting of resources towards those in greatest need."
