Ferris welcomes cross border assistance for farmers
Sinn Féin spokesperson on Agriculture Martin Ferris TD has welcomed the participation of Irish army and air corps personnel and equipment in emergency measures to assist farmers affected by the heavy snow north of the border.
Farmers in mountain and hill areas of Antrim and Down have lost sheep who have been stranded in snow drifts and conditions have made feeding and rescuing animals extremely difficult.
Deputy Ferris said: “I very much welcome the response of Minister Coveneny who was requested by Northern Agriculture Minister Michelle O’Neill to request army assistance. The response has been rapid and significant and is very much appreciated by farmers in the parts of the north worst affected. This operation underlines the effectiveness and practicality of cross border co-operation.”
