Money for youth sector welcomed

9 April, 2013 - by Chris Hazzard

Sinn Féin Education Spokesperson Chris Hazzard has welcomed the announcement by Education Minister John O’Dowd to make £10m available for capital projects for groups in the voluntary sector.

 Mr. Hazzard said,

‘This is again of a demonstration of the Minister’s philosophy of putting money into frontline services and ensuring that equality is enshrined across all aspects of education.

“Youth services provide an important role in the development of young people into adults so it is crucial that youth services are supported and encouraged.

“This money will allow many organisations to apply to upgrade their premises and allow better access to these facilities for people with disabilities for example.

“I would urge youth groups to contact the department and see if they are eligible to apply and get an application in that will improve their buildings and their services.”
