Outstanding elements of Good Friday Agreement must be implemented
Newly elected Sinn Féin MP for Mid Ulster Francie Molloy called on the Oireachtas Good Friday Agreement Committee to bring forward recommendations on how to implement the outstanding issues in the Good Friday and St Andrew’s Agreements.
Francie Molloy said;
“Fifteen years ago the British and Irish Governments signed the Good Friday Agreement. This agreement and the subsequent agreement at St Andrew’s are key milestones in the political process.
“Much has been accomplished since the signing of the agreement. However there are outstanding elements that remain to be implemented.
“I believe the Good Friday Agreement Committee here in the Oireachtas has a key role in the process of implementing these agreements and it should bring forward recommendations on how to implement the outstanding issues in these agreements.”
Sean Crowe TD added;
“Today at the committee I supported a call for a debate in the Dáil to be set to allow all parties to reflect on the success of the GFA and to bring forward recommendations on how to realise the agreement’s full potential.
“This includes the development of an All-Ireland Consultative Forum, Bill of for the North and an all-Ireland Charter of Rights and an Irish Language Act for the North.”
