"Yesterday morning we made a positive contribution to the first session of the EU Parliament when we voted for the GUE/NGL group leader Francis Wurtz for the position of President of the EU Parliament.
"Josep Borrell, the nominee from the Socialist grouping was elected on the first count . We wish Mr Borrell success as the new EU Parliament President. "We are committed to bringing about real social and political change within the EU Parliament and will work right across the political spectrum in the coming weeks and months ahead to achieve these objectives. ENDS
