Hazzard welcomes Shared Education report
Sinn Féin MLA and education spokesperson Chris Hazzard has welcomed the Independent report on Shared Education brought forward today by the Ministerial Advisory Group.
Speaking to day Mr Hazzard said:
“This report is a welcome step forward. At its core the report indicates the need for and desire to progress shared education reflecting the views and opinions of parents, communities, schools from across the sectors along with other stakeholders.
“Key to this is the commitment to an equality based system which will provide all of our children with a first class education system with enhanced options and choices through schools sharing resources and skills.
“However if we are to address the need and desire for shared education in its entirety we cannot ignore the economic and social discrimination that a selection process at 11 perpetuates.
“This is an impediment that Sinn Féin have been to the fore in challenging.
“I also welcome the Ministers commitment to contribute and advance this debate by organising public meetings and stakeholder events in the near future.”
