It’s by accident of birth that Enda Kenny is not attending Fianna Fáil ard fheis - Tóibín

26 April, 2013 - by Peadar Tóibín TD

Commenting on the legacy of Fianna Fáil government and the continuation of their policy by Fine Gael and Labour, Sinn Féin TD and enterprise spokesperson, Peadar Tóibín said today: “Two years after Fianna Fáil was thrown out of government the ruling Troika allowed democratically elected opposition TDs to lobby them for one hour on economic policy in Ireland.
“Two years after Fianna Fáil was thrown out of government unemployment is still at 14%, emigration is still at record levels and growth is till stagnant.
“A representative of the Troika stated that he was disappointed with the economic situation in Ireland. For me the word disappointment does not adequately describe the social and economic devastation that has been done to my generation.
“Indeed the damage done to Ireland in the last five years of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael government has few international comparisons.”
“It is by an accident of birth that Enda Kenny is not attending the Fianna Fáil Ard Fheis today. Not a cigarette paper of a difference exits between FG and Fianna Fáil policy or delivery.
“The material well-being of the vast majority of our citizens has not improved an iota and indeed many find themselves worse off. Fine Gael like Fianna Fáil refuse to stimulate the economy, refuse to tackle rent costs, energy costs or credit costs. And removed from the real world of falling retail trade, Enda announces 96% of boxes are ticked in jobs free action plan.”
