Unemployment unchanged – government claims policy working : Toibín
Speaking on the release of the latest Live Register figures, Peadar Toíbín, Sinn Féin spokesperson on jobs, enterprise and innovation said:
“Unemployed has continued at the rate at which this government came to power, despite record levels of emigration. We also have almost 57% of all those unemployed having been without work for at least the last year.
“Yesterday the government released their best estimation of growth and jobs as part of the Stability Programme Update which had unemployment forecast at 12.8%, a rise on their previous estimates, by the end of 2015. It is clear that unemployment is collateral damage to the government’s austerity policy,
“Despite continued high unemployment the government claims that their policies are working. It is clear that these policies are failing our people, our workers and our economy. It is time to invest in growth and job creation.”
