Common sense has prevailed over care homes fiasco - Sue Ramsey

Sinn Féin MLA Sue Ramsey has welcomed the decision by the Health Minister to reverse the decision to close all the care homes by the North's Health Trusts.

The West Belfast MLA and Chair of the Assembly's Heath Committee said:

"I welcome this decision, which is a result of people power. Common sense has prevailed and clearly the situation has been handled wrongly. The minister has shown that he is in charge, something he should have done from the beginning of this fiasco.

"The policy of Transforming Your Care is about making our health system better and bringing that care into the community, not spreading fear and uncertainty about the future. A hands on approach by the minister should now ensure that changes to come are done with the full involvement of those it directly affects and that their views and wishes are taken on board.

"I understand that the minister will be making a statement to the Assembly on Tuesday and this will give us an opportunity to question him on how he intends to proceed and also how he will ensure that such a situation does not occur again." END
