Toibín welcomes exit from receivership of Pamela Scott and B&Q
Speaking following the news that B&Q and Pamela Scott had exited the receivership process and retained staff, Sinn Féin’s spokesperson on enterprise, jobs and innovation, Peadar Tóibín TD said:
“This is a welcome announcement with the retention of jobs. However this crisis could, and should, have been averted by the government making good on the promise to deal with the legacy of Upward Only Rent Reviews.
“The government has hidden behind the Attorney General as an excuse to support the landlords over the tenants and workers. It is clear that the issue can be addressed by the government at the Dáil or through a referendum. I have tabled a bill to address the issue that the government has failed to support.
“Despite today’s news, jobs are still being lost as not all tenants can afford or embark on the examinership process. The government needs to act now to safeguard jobs and viable businesses.”
