Public Expenditure Minister needs to clarify new Lottery licence Good Causes funding

9 May, 2013 - by Mary Lou McDonald TD

Sinn Féin’s Mary Lou McDonald TD this morning called on the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform to clarify future National Lottery funding to Good Causes noting that any reduction in monies to community programmes would be totally unacceptable.

The Dublin Central TD said:

“When the National Lottery Bill made its way through the Oireachtas Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin TD told Deputies current levels of Good Causes funding would be protected and maintained in the new licence.

“During Committee and Report stage of the legislation I tabled an amendment which sought to ensure that current Good Causes funding from National lottery sales would be maintained.

“Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin told me it would be inappropriate to include such a provision in the new legislation but protections would be included in the new licence which we have yet to see or even be briefed on.

“Brendan Howlin needs to immediately clarify the terms of the new licence with regards to Good Causes and I have written to him today requesting that he do so.”
