Ramsey praises work of foster carers
Speaking at the launch of Foster Care Fortnight 2013 in the Assembly this morning, Sinn Féin MLA Sue Ramsey said it was a great chance to celebrate and recognise the incredible work done by foster carers.
The West Belfast MLA and Chair of the Assembly’s Health Committee said:
“Foster Care Fortnight gives us a chance to celebrate and recognise the incredible work you do as foster and kinship carers throughout the year.
“To recognise and celebrate how you have opened your homes, families and hearts to children and young people who have often suffered trauma and possibly abuse and most certainly loss. And to celebrate how on a day-to-day basis you provide love, care, devotion and skill to help them to grow and reach their potential.
“In my role as Chair of Health Committee I see too often the difficulties with our health and social care and how it fails to deliver what it is we need.
“I am delighted this morning that we have such a positive story. Over the next year to 18 months the issue of fostering and kinship care will be very much on the agenda and I will keep it within the focus of the Health Committee and ensure that the changes we make deliver for children in care.”
