Creche reports should be published – Ó Caoláin
Commenting on the serious concerns about the conduct of three creches which have been investigated by the HSE and by an RTE investigation team, Sinn Féin spokesperson on Children, Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD, said all reports should be published without further delay.
“There is now widespread concern about how creches are managed and the adequacy of the inspection regime.
“Whilst I believe the vast majority of childcare facilities are properly managed and adhere to required standards, the revelations about three creches in the Dublin region under investigation by the HSE arising from an RTE investigation, are a cause of real anxiety to parents.
“All the relevant HSE reports should be published without futher delay. The RTÉ report should be broadcast as soon as possible. It is puzzling that there has been such a time gap between the reporting of these matters to the Gardai and the HSE and the broadcast of the programme.
“If there are lessons to be drawn regarding policy on the management and inspection of childcare facilities then they must be applied. I will be raising this matter with the Minister for Children Frances Fitzgerald in the Dáil next week.”
