Figures show strategy on retired teachers working
Sinn Féin Education spokesperson Chris Hazzard has said that the measures being taking by the Minister John O’Dowd was opening up opportunities for newly qualified teachers.
Mr. Hazzard said,
“The latest figures that show that retired teachers returning to positions in schools have fallen by over 80% coupled with the recently announced initiative to hire over 200 newly qualified teachers is opening up new opportunities.
“The Minister has to be praised for addressing one of the major issues facing the teaching profession in providing new incentives and opportunities for new teachers.
“It is important that teachers coming out of college are not hindered from taking up positions by those at the end of their career and the latest figures today bear out the fact that strategies that the Minister is putting in place are working.”
