Ferris calls for extension of fodder subsidy
Sinn Féin spokesperson on agriculture, Martin Ferris TD, has called on Minister Simon Coveney to extend the fodder subsidy in order to ensure that farmers have the means to access food as the impact of the fodder crisis continues. He also called on the government to request that the EU allow Irish farmers low interest loans as high interest rates here are prohibitive.
Deputy Ferris said:
“The fodder subsidy needs to be extended to allow farmers to put the current crisis behind them. I would also encourage the Government to request that the EU facilitate low interest loans for farmers, as they have done recently in other European states, including low interest loans to the Greek tourist industry."
