Food Safety Week an opportunity to reduce food poisoning

Sinn Féin Health Spokesperson Sue Ramsey MLA has called on people to use Food Safety Week to improve safety around the kitchen.

 Ms. Ramsey said,

 “Many people who suffer from food poisoning or other related illnesses could possibly easily avoid sickness if they took time to learn how to store and prepare food properly.

“Food Safety Week is designed to give people the knowledge on how to do this and work in a safe environment as many myths exist about food poisoning.

]“Learning basic principles about cleanliness, not mixing cooked with uncooked meats, the difference by Best Before and Use By dates and proper storage conditions can make a big difference.

 “While most food related illnesses cause more discomfort than damage many can lead to serious illnesses even death.

 “I would call on people to engage with the information sessions being planned or log on in order to learn more about keeping safe while storing or preparing food
