Sinn Féin Public Expenditure and Reform Spokesperson Mary Lou McDonald TD has this evening welcomed the decision of Government to take the sale of Coillte’s harvesting rights and the state’s stake in Aer Lingus ‘off the table’ of proposed state asset disposals.
The Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform made his comments during this evenings meeting of the Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform Joint Committee.
The Dublin Central TD said:
“Whilst we welcome the Government’s decision to withdraw its threat to sell of Coillte’s harvesting rights and the states stake in Aer Lingus, it is lamentable that the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform still refuses to acknowledge the strategic nature of both state assets.
“Flogging off the family silver makes no sense in good times or in bad. State assets are of vital important to our economic sustainability and could play a more active role in the states recovery. It is astonishing that the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform continues to ignore the strategic importance of such assets to the state.”
