Praise for Young Leaders contribution
Sinn Féin MLA and Junior Minister Jennifer McCann praised Young Leaders contribution for their involvement and engagement in global issues at the recent G8 Summit.
Speaking ahead of addressing a reception in honour of young leaders from across the G20 at the Waterfront Hall the West Belfast MLA said:
“I want to commend IDEA (The International Diplomatic Engagement Association) for bringing together young leaders from across the Globe to build bridges beyond major annual summits.
“This week we have had the eyes of the world on us as world leaders gathered to make decisions which will impact on all of us.
“We heard an inspirational speech made by young Hannah Nelson at the Waterfront Hall before President Obama addressed hundreds of young people from all over the North.
Several weeks ago we had a G8 Youth Summit, which produced a Communique that was given to the leaders at the G8.
“Today we have 13 Youth8 delegates from all over the world coming together with a number of young leaders from the North to discuss their views on G8 issues. Those young leaders will also present a communique to their respective Governments.
“The passion and commitment that young people have on global issues is clear and events such as today gives all our Young Leaders, no matter what part of the world they come from, the recognition they deserve.”
