Ó Donnghaile condemns petrol bombing of Strand Walk homes

24 June, 2013

Sinn Féin Councillor Niall Ó Donnghaile has condemned those responsible for petrol bombing homes along Strand Walk late last night.

He said;

"Shortly after 11:00pm last night I was contacted by distressed residents in Strand Walk after half a dozen petrol bombs were thrown at properties in the area.

"I quickly got to the scene and by that time the PSNI and Fire Service were in attendance.

"Strand Walk is an area with a mixture of family homes as well as specially adapted bungalows for elderly and disabled members of our community. Last nights attack could have had tragic consequences.

"It is past time that we heard clear leadership from political unionism in relation to these issues. Leaders need to lead.

"I take heart from the cross-community meeting that took place between residents last week. That is the kind of work we need to continue with. We cannot allow those opposed to that progress to dictate the pace as we head further into the summer months.

"I am calling on anyone with any information in relation to this attack to bring it forward and I am also calling on colleagues within political unionism to stand together with us to face down those who seem so determined to drag us back."
