Anderson welcomes achievement on CAP Reform
Martina Anderson MEP has welcomed a deal on CAP Reform finally reached today after years of negotiations.
Martina Anderson said:
"I congratulate our Minister, Michelle O'Neill in achieving key objectives for our farmers in the north of Ireland. It is good that the vast majority of farmers are now recognised as being already compliant with the new greening requirements. In addition the fact that regional flexibility was secured is extremely important for our farming industry.
"It's disappointing that Minister O’Neill’s proposal to resolve the non-farming landowners issue was not accepted by the Commission. This is doubly concerning when the Commission is at the same time telling DARD to resolve this situation but refuses to give them a mechanism to do so.“However, overall it is good that CAP reform is now finally agreed and it is a major achievement for the Irish EU Presidency. So I congratulate our Minister in securing a positive result in the lengthy negotiations.”
