Adams welcomes appointment of new ICTU President
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD has welcomed the appointment of Mandate General Secretary John Douglas as President of ICTU for the next two-year term.
Teachta Adams said:
“John Douglas takes on this critical role at a difficult time for workers and a challenging time for the trade union movement.
“The government’s austerity policies have driven the economy back into recession and are seriously hurting low and middle income families and the disadvantaged.
“The budget in October will add to these hardships.
“Moreover Labour in government has proven itself incapable of listening to the concerns of trade unionists or of defending the interests of workers and is now viewed as little different from Fine Gael.”
