Minister should sign bridge order now

8 July, 2013 - by Caitríona Ruane

Sinn Féin MLA Caitríona Ruane has written to Department of Regional Development Danny Kennedy over the delay to a Bridge Order for the Narrow Water Bridge.

 Ms. Ruane said,

“The Narrow Water Bridge is good to proceed as soon as DRD Minister Danny Kennedy grants a Bridge Order, as every other issue including the funding has been addressed.”

“It has also been confirmed that Louth County Council has granted their Bridge Order so there is no reason whatsoever for the delay from the North.

“Monies secured through Special EU Programmes Body are conditional on the finishing date of the bridge so we are in danger of the project falling if the Minister delays much longer.

“I am calling on the Minister to issue the bridge order now so that the bridge can begin, bringing with it economic benefits to the region and also a boost to the construction industry.”
