Youth Initiatives crucial in tackling sectarianism and racism – Jennifer McCann
Sinn Féin MLA and Junior Minister Jennifer McCann has commended the work Youth Initiatives do to bring young people from diverse backgrounds together during a visit to their new centre at Poleglass.
The West Belfast MLA said:
“The increasing engagement of young people in Youth Initiatives projects in West Belfast, East Belfast, Downpatrick and Banbridge involving over 80 volunteers is evidence of its success.
“These projects greatly benefit young people and the issues they face growing up particularly in areas of social disadvantage. Bringing together young people from different backgrounds can only enrich their lives and improve relations for the good of everyone in society.
“I commend everyone involved in Youth Initiatives, both volunteers and participants. Good relations across all parts of our community are essential to build a prosperous, peaceful and safe society.
“Programmes operating at a community level are crucial in shaping a shared future in tackling the blights of sectarianism and racism, in addition to other forms of intolerance."
