Progress on Lourdes Hospital scheme welcome – Ó Caoláin

24 July, 2013 - by Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD

Sinn Féin Health spokesperson Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin has given an initial welcome to the announcement by Health Minister James Reilly that there is to be a redress scheme for women excluded on age grounds alone from the scheme to provide redress to victims of disgraced former consultant Michael Neary.

Deputy Ó Caoláin said:

“Progress on long overdue redress for the women excluded on age grounds is welcome. It was hugely unjust that these women were excluded in the first place, given what they endured in the Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, in common with the women who have already received redress.

“However, we must await the full detail of the new scheme and the response of Patient Focus who are due to meet the minister this evening.” ENDS
