Attack on graves a disgrace - Corr

25 July, 2013

Sinn Féin Councillor Stephen Corr has slammed those who desecrated graves in the City Cemetery.

 Councillor Corr said:

"I have spent most of the day in the City Cemetery with families of those, who’s loved ones graves, were desecrated by pure wanton vandalism.

"It was a scene of shock, disgust and disbelief that greeted the families, cemetery staff and myself as we tried to comprehend what happened.

"This was not sectarian or racist, it was vandalism of the lowest order. I want to ask those who did this to explain why they desecrated this place.

"We have called for extra security and staff for the cemetery over the next few nights and we will also be raising this within Council as we look at more long term solutions.

"The vast majority of our young people are great ambassadors for West Belfast and their communities and we must focus in on the small minority who engage in these activities.

“I would appeal for anyone who has information on these vandals to bring it forward so we can end this spate of wanton destruction on family graves" END
