Sinn Féin's record on Irish language stands out - McCorley
Responding to a statement from the SDLP’s Patsy McGlone, Sinn Fein Assembly member Rosie McCorley said:
“Sinn Féin’s strategic and practical leadership on the Irish language – particularly though DCAL Minister Carál Ní Chuilín – is unprecedented.
“While Patsy McGlone is attacking Sinn Féin, we have spearheaded the Líofa campaign to ensure 5,000 new Irish language speakers become fluent by 2015.
“Just last month Líofa celebrated its 4,000th sign-up and support is growing across every community in the North, but the SDLP was silent.
“In recent weeks, Minister Ní Chuilín secured the creation of a new all-Ireland language partnership forum and all-Ireland language development forum under the North South Ministerial Council. Again the SDLP was silent.
“The DCAL Minister submitted the information for the Executive to consider in March 2012. If Mr McGlone was communicating with his Ministerial colleague he would have been aware of this fact."
