Ellis welcomes new talks to resolve Dublin Bus dispute
Sinn Fein transport spokesperson Dessie Ellis has welcomed news that Dublin Bus strike will end today and wished the workers well in their fight to protect pay and conditions. He made his comments as new talks involving the Labour Court were announced for tomorrow morning.
Deputy Ellis said: “While I am disappointed neither Minister Kelly nor Varadkar were willing to intervene in this dispute precipitated by their cuts I am very glad to hear there will be a new opportunity for resolution for Dublin Bus workers.
“I hope that some deal can be made which will benefit the service provided by Dublin Bus and protect the pay and conditions of workers.
“Despite this hope it cannot be ignored that Dublin Bus does need to change and the government needs to put a serious focus on supporting public transport. Fine Gael cannot be allowed to wind down public transport services in preparation for privatisation.”
