McLellan congratulates Irish Homeless World Cup team on ‘excellent performance’
Sinn Féin spokesperson for Arts, Heritage, Tourism and Sports, Sandra McLellan TD, has congratulated the Irish team which has competed in the 2013 Homeless Cup in Poland.
The Irish team finished 11th out of 48 teams from around the world, building on the strong performances over recent years, including a 16th place finish last year.
Deputy McLellan said;
“Once again the Irish team has done us proud in the Homeless World Cup, after beating some extremely strong opposition, and representing their country with distinction.
“The Homeless World Cup is a fantastic opportunity for people who have been marginalised by society, to compete, and bring pride to their communities and their families. Particularly in this time where homelessness is as big a problem as ever, it is timely to consider how much the homeless can offer our society.
“I have previously made the point that this is an event which Ireland is more than capable of hosting, and would send out an excellent message of inclusion to the homeless community, and I once again call on Minister Ring to consider supporting such an initiative.”
