HSE administrators bill ‘scandalous’ – Ó Caoláin

21 August, 2013 - by Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD

The latest figures from the HSE indicating that the number of administrators in the HSE earning over €100,000 rose from 121 to 129 in 2012 and that the aggregate pay for those top-earning 129 administrative staff will total €15.7 million this year, compared with €14.6 million paid out last year, has been described as ‘scandalous’ by Sinn Féin spokesperson on Health, Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD.

Speaking today in response to media reports confirming the HSE figures, Deputy Ó Caoláin said;

“This latest revelation from the HSE is absolutely scandalous, particularly in light of the cuts imposed on health services, the impact of which are having a devastating effect on the lives of many thousands of vulnerable citizens on a daily basis.

“Frontline services, acute and community care, medical cards, disability and mental health services have all been cut while those at the very top of the HSE are rewarded time and again.

“Indeed the vast majority of healthcare workers will be disgusted at this news, as they see their own wages cut and their numbers diminish.

“Sinn Féin has consistently called for the protection of frontline services and cuts in pay to be targeted at those who can best afford it. These latest figures confirm that the government's policy is the exact opposite. Minister Reilly needs to reassess his priorities.”
