Government cuts causing crisis in services for people with disabilities - Ó Caoláin
Sinn Féin Health & Children spokesperson Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin has said that Government cuts are causing a crisis in services for people with disabilities, the latest being the cuts to services provided by the St. Michael's House organisation in Dublin.
He said:"Staff, service users, parents and other carers have been receiving the news from St. Michael's House that, due to Government cuts, further services will be lost or reduced and staff will be laid off.
"This is the latest instalment in the rolling crisis in services for people with disabilities. With loss of staff, reduction of day and respite services, cutbacks to transport, and the cutting of smallweekly allowances for disabled people attending day centres, theinfrastructure for people with disabilities is being eroded more andmore. Government-imposed cuts are the direct cause of this. These cuts must be halted and I call on Minister of State Kathleen Lynch to immediately state what she is going to do to address the crisis in services for people with disabilities." ENDS
