Vigilance needed in hospital hygiene – Ó Caoláin

4 September, 2013 - by Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD

Commenting on the HIQA report on hygiene and infection control in Beaumont Hospital, Sinn Féin Health spokesperson Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD, said:

“This report clearly demonstrates the need for continuing vigilance in the enforcement of hospital hygiene and infection controls. It is welcome and important that HIQA continually monitors implementation of these standards which are vital for the health and safety of patients.

“Concerns raised regarding Beaumont and other hospitals must be addressed by management with effective quality improvement plans and I am confident that they will be so addressed.

“We must also remember that public hospitals are under huge pressure trying to provide services with reduced staff, reduced beds and reduced budgets as a result of government cutbacks. This is currently the biggest single threat to patient safety in our hospitals.”
