Translink need to explain delay in reporting procurement problems

18 September, 2013 - by Cathal Ó hOisín

East Derry MLA Sinn Féin Cathal Ó hOisín has said Translink and Department of Regional Development need to explain why they delayed announcing the delays in the procurement process by Translink on the Signaling system on the Derry/Coleraine line.

 Mr. Ó hOisín said,

“It is unacceptable that the Department of Regional Development were aware of problems in procurement from the 19th June but that the Minister Danny Kennedy was not informed until the 3rd of September and the the DRD Committee was not informed until the 5th September.

“The DRD Committee have become increasingly disillusioned with the antics of Translink over a wide variety of issues but particularly as to why a scoping paper on the procurement has not been made available and looks unlikely to be so anytime soon.

“The failure to acquire signalling equipment will have negative impact upon the completed delivery of the Coleraine/Derry line delaying it for up to a year and this shoddy management of the project is just not good enough.”

“The Chief Executive needs to come before the Committee and explain why a basic procurement issue has become a disaster.
