Trafficking Bill will need further scrutiny
Sinn Féin MLA Rosie McCorley has said that we need to further scrutinise the Human Trafficking and Exploitation Bill if we are to develop legislation that really protects women and children.
Ms. McCorley said,
“While we are happy to allow the Bill to proceed to Committee stage we will then need to fully scrutinise and examine the clauses to ensure that the Bill lives up to what is intended to do – to protect women and children.
“While there is no doubt a connection between human trafficking and prostitution the reality is far more complex so it is important that any legislation is not rushed and that it protects against all aspects of trafficking and the sex trade.
“I would like to see a further more extensive consultation with all concerned parties to ensure that we get the best legislation possible to protect women and children.”
